Seven years ago, your father abducted you, Alia Bouklachi

It’s today… but it was seven years ago. You were one and a half years old, you had a snack in your backpack and a winter hat on your head, because it’s cold in France, on December 4th at 8 AM.

That day, your father decided that he no longer wanted you to enjoy your rights, your life.

Because he thinks you belong to him, because he believes you are not a person in your own right, and above all, because he thought it would make me, your mother, suffer. So, he abducted you

He kidnapped you, like they do in movies, snatching you away from your mother’s arms. To prevent the police from finding you, he then got you out of France and brought you to Africa, specifically Algeria.

And -I learned this later on- he abandoned you there to live his own life elsewhere, without you.

Seven years ago, Alia, your father stole your life, your present, and your future.

He can’t explain why, but he did it, and worst of all, he refuses to undo it. He had numerous opportunities to make amends for the wrong he did to you, but he chose to ignore them all.

I am so sorry for you Alia. As your mother, I am doing everything I can to help you regain your rights and your life. Your kidnapper, on the other hand, is trying every day to prevent me from doing so. But I will not give up, and neither will your supporters.

Because for seven years, many people have been joining your cause.

You don’t know them, but they know you. And they are fighting for you, for your rights, for your life.

I hope that one day you will be able to meet each person who fought for you.

In the meantime, let’s start this eighth year of the battle, Alia, with more actions and hope than ever before. Every year, we are growing in numbers and are more determined to restore what your kidnappers stole from you.

Here’s to an eighth year of the fight for Alia Bouklachi.
