Today, every French kid is back to school. You are French, and yet you’re not at school today. You’ve once again been denied this right by your kidnappers.
This year, you should have entered the 3rd level of the French primary school system. In your school, the other pupils speak and write French and English fluently. They follow a national curriculum that’s precise, they have up-to-date and modern learning materials. I’m sure you would have enjoyed so much being part of your class.
Unfortunately, you are not in school, just like every other year since you’ve been abducted. And even if you were, you certainly wouldn’t receive the same level of education in the small Algerian rural school you’d be attending as you’d have here, in France.
As always, I wonder what those who abducted you are planning for your future. For what future can you have without a proper education level ? Have they even thought about it ? Do they themselves have enough knowledge to realize how harmful it is to deny a child quality education ?
But we are not giving up, Alia. One day you will be able to enjoy each of your rights, including the right to educate yourself and have access to knowledge. I fight every day with this in mind, have no doubt about it.
In the meantime, I wish you, if you had one, a very happy start to the 2023 school year Alia.
